Good News: A family of Gambel’s Quail have deemed our place their place for the second year! Today we saw their six babies for the first time, tiny little things, probably a day old.
Bad News: We have a swimming pool. Now, before you panic & go all fluttery; the pool is empty, dead, dry, defunct, kaput! But, yes, all six babies ended up in there somehow. Made Sophie (bird dog pointer) go just a bit mad (although it is hard to tell with a pointer). Good thing the gate is closed! But the thing is; the little things could not get out. They kept clambering about and with us out there, mom & dad simply hid. Into the dead pool I go. Have you ever seen the death of a pool in the Arizona sun? eeiioouuu Dry it is, but it is all crumbly, not good for walking on at all and naturally the chicks were in the deep end, way down there! So on my posterior I go. No, I did not fall, but I would have, but (no pun intended) hubby suggested the scoot on your seat method.
Good News: After several seat trips to the bottom of the pool and romps back up while hubby was herding using a defunct pool brush handle (of course the brush fell off during the excitement…have I mentioned the Arizona sun? And did you know that all that clap-trap about plastic lasting forever is a myth? Oh yes, it’s true. Anything plastic left outside here is a crumbly goner, but I digress). The point is; all six babies and mom and dad are a family once again and neither hubby nor I are dead! Yay! (However, there is that disappointed pointer. Guess that is her Bad News! hah!)
